ICANN's Policy Forum in Helsinki
July 27-30 AMGlobal’s Andrew Mack attended the 56th ICANN meeting in Helsinki, Finland. The meeting centered around discussion of the IANA transition and the continued internationalization of internet policy. It was in many ways an unusual meeting, both as ICANN’s first “Policy Forum” — designed to be a shorter event focused more on policy discussions — and for the famous midnight sun which lit up Helsinki during nearly every minute of the week. As head of the Business Constituency’s Outreach Committee, Mack also held meetings with the ICANN team managing its Fellows and “Next Generation” programs, lobbying for more participation from the global south generally and especially more emphasis on attracting the representatives of business from Africa, Latin America and other less-represented regions.
