Africa ICT Alliance Conference: AMG in Johannesburg
On September 2nd, Andrew Mack spoke to the third Africa Summit in Johannesburg of the Africa Information and Communications Technology Association (AfICTA), a group of leading private sector actors in tech from around the continent. The conference examined issues crucial to tech policy and investment promotion. Mack’s talk, entitled “The Internet of Things and the new gTLD opportunity”, touched on two of the hottest topics of interest today in Africa – highlighting the opportunities brought on by the expansion in the Internet space. He emphasized the need to build awareness and capacity in both the private sector and government, so Africa can take advantage of these new platforms.
Finally, in his role as the Outreach Coordinator for ICANN’s Business Constituency, Mack urged more African companies to participate in the discussions around Internet Governance. “We have seen a tremendous increase in participation by African governments in ICANN and other forums, he said, and it has made a difference. Now is the time for African business to also get to the table, to make sure that African issues are at the center as we chart the way forward for the Internet in Africa and globally.”
